A Guide to Our Evaluation Process

This guide outlines our approach to evaluations for both children/adolescents and adults. We understand that seeking help can be a significant step, and we strive to create a supportive and informative experience for you.

For Adults:

Our evaluation sessions prioritize understanding your experiences and needs. We aim to:

  • Uncover the underlying reasons contributing to your difficulties, whether psychological, biological, or environmental.

  • Develop a personalized understanding of your unique situation and challenges.

  • Forge a collaborative plan for support and intervention, tailored to your specific needs and goals.

Children

For Children and Adolescents:

Helping your child thrive is our focus. Our initial evaluation process, typically two sessions, takes a gentle and insightful approach to understanding your journey:

Building the Context

  • Reviewing Documents and Background Information: Prior to the session, you and your child will complete evidence-based screening forms and questionnaires that provide valuable insights. Doctor Ozinci will carefully review these documents beforehand.

  • Partnering with Parents: During the sessions, our doctor offers a dedicated space for you to share your observations and concerns about your child's struggles. You'll discuss the symptoms, school performance, social interactions, and any other relevant details. This helps the doctor gain a complete picture of your child's experiences and challenges from your perspective.

Exploring Inner World and Unveiling the Path Forward

  • Individual Child Interview: Through an age-appropriate, comfortable conversation, Doctor Ozinci interacts directly with your child to gain valuable insights into her/his thoughts, feelings, and experiences firsthand.

  • Present a Clear Summary: Dr. Ozinci summarizes the clinical assessment, present a coherent narrative understanding of your child, and answer any questions you may have.

  • Discuss Treatment Recommendations: She will collaborate with you on treatment options, which may include:

    • Collaborative Work: She works closely with your child's school, therapist (if one is already involved), and other providers.

    • Appropriate Referrals: For any underlying medical factors contributing to mental health.

    • Medication Guidance: When medication may be helpful, Dr. Ozinci will explain the different options, their pros and cons, and potential side effects. The doctor believes in making informed decisions together, prioritizing your comfort level and preferences.

Discuss Treatment Recommendations

  • Therapy Guidance: Dr. Ozinci will provide the various types of psychotherapy based on the patient’s need throughout the sessions.

  • Functional Psychiatry Approach: The doctor looks beyond symptoms to understand the biological, psychological, lifestyle, and environmental factors that may be affecting your child’s mental health. This whole-person perspective allows Dr. Ozinci to create a personalized, evidence-based treatment plan designed to support lasting well-being.

  • Genetic Testing: With your consent, the doctor may order genetic testing to analyze variations in DNA which might change the response to certain commonly prescribed psychiatric medications. Based on the genetic make up, the test can provide insights about medications that may need dose adjustments, might be less effective, or could have an increased risk of side effects. This personalized information can guide your doctor in choosing the most suitable medications and dosages for you, potentially improving the effectiveness of the treatment and reducing the risk of adverse reactions.
